I purchased a refurbished 2017 macbook air in April 2022. Simply final evening it began making a comparatively loud popping/crackling noise that persists even after the laptop computer is powered off. It doesn’t look like coming from the audio system. After it was turned off, the sound progressively decreased in depth. In the present day I turned it again on and the sound restarted, although not as loud as final evening. Much like final evening, it continued however slowly attenuated after I powered the laptop computer off once more.
My foremost concern is that that is coming from the battery and represents an imminent battery failure, which I do not wish to occur when it is on my lap. Ideas on causes, potential options, and whether or not or not this presents any hazard?
